Granville Island and a Takumar

I’ve been interested in picking up a manual lens for a while. Mostly for zone focusing and street photography, but also to experience some of the charm and character of vintage equipment. After having picked up (and so far loving) an Asahi Super-Takumar 55mm F/1.8 earlier this week, the itch came again all too soon and I scratched it by grabbing the Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 28mm F/3.5 today. These are all from the 28mm, adapted to my Canon EOS R.

Crystal had joined me and she was getting hungry, so we headed from the camera store down to Granville Island.

My favorite method of transportation in town—the aquabus.

Interesting fact, to control problem birds (like this one) around the public market, Granville Island employs raptor handlers with hawks.

While we didn’t see any birds of prey, we were certainly preyed on by birds.

An eye-catchingly red house along False Creek.

Found some sports courts during our wander around the Island.

It’s a colorful place, no question.

This train station belongs to them now.

Some of the friendlier graffiti around.

We stopped at the Kitsilano mural so I could get some wider portraits.

I headed down to the beach to catch the sunset, as I do most evenings.

That wraps up another adventure and another day. As with the 55mm, I am super impressed with the 28mm Takumar. The lens is sharp with beautiful colors. I expect I’ll have much more to share from these lenses in the coming weeks, months, and years.
