A walk and a ramble

In the before times, I would make the short commute downtown most days, working at my office in the Beltline. As someone who enjoys practicing street photography, this was quite opportune. Before work, lunch breaks, or evenings, it was always very convenient to strap on some glass and go for a wander. However, in these changed times of remote work, physical distancing, and face coverings, I find I am less frequently motivated to get out.

Well, today I decided to take advantage of some fine December weather, wiped the dust off, shook the rust off, and embarked on one of my old routes. The weather app optimistically claimed a balmy 9°C. The bright sun, low in the sky as it is this time of year in the far north, provided plentiful shadow and shaft of light to draw eye and lens.

Progressing purposefully along my path, I was called from half a lifetime ago, being struck by the emptiness of these streets. Calgary has never had a bustling core, on a Sunday morning least of all, but the amount of traffic, on foot and wheel, has increased as the decades pass. Today, the core echoes the silence of those days gone by.

I come upon a pair of familiar faces, without much to say.

And a composition which is bound to become familiar, featuring our newest star of the skyline.

The rumbling of my stomach is well-timed, as I near the closing of the loop. Comfortable now having witnessed the city persists, I leave the towers behind and return home.
